Insights into Rebel Moon’s Reception and Beyond
Zack Snyder has made many movies that were a bit controversial. His filmography includes titles like Watchmen, Sucker Punch, and Man of Steel, and despite being big hits, all these movies have their fans and people who passionately dislike them. So it was no surprise that Rebel Moon, his latest movie, had similar mixed reactions.
Snyder Ponders Rebel Moon Reception
The movie came out in November 2023, and a few months after it came out, Snyder shared his feelings about the negative reactions in an interview. He said that he didn’t really have a comeback to those who didn’t like the movie. In the interview, he shared that the reaction to Rebel Moon felt just as polarizing as with other movies he’d made, so he wasn’t really surprised.
The movie itself is a science fiction story about a former soldier who recruits a team to defend a small moon from a tyrannical galaxy-spanning regime. It was apparently conceived as a Star Wars movie that didn’t get the green light, so Snyder decided to do it himself, and the common tropes are quite evident.
Part Two Is Already on the Way
Rebel Moon only got a 21% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and while it faired slightly better with the audience at a rating of 58%, it still wasn’t great. While it is true that many of the movies he makes get this polarized reception, Snyder has also had largely praised titles like 300, Dawn of the Dead, and his version of the Justice League.
Snyder expressed curiosity about what the reaction of the critics will be after they see the director’s cuts, and fans also wonder whether the second film will be any better. Part Two: The Scargiver is expected to become available on April 19th, 2024.
